Este filme conta a história de Carl Casper, um chefe de cozinha que ama o que faz.
O restaurante onde ele trabalha recebe um critico, mas o seu chefe não lhe deixa fazer as alterações necessárias no menu, e a comida de Carl acaba por receber uma má critica.
Por causa disso ele acabar por ficar sem trabalho, e como não recebe qualquer oferta de emprego, decide aceitar ajuda do ex da sua ex-mulher.
